Statue of Felipe III – Madrid – Spain - Engraved love locks
Madrid is Spain’s capital city. Its most known and most popular gathering place is the Plaza Mayor. It is a square in the downtown of Madrid, which’s surrounding buildings were built where sometimes a river tinkled. The square gives place to many various events, such as concerts, cultural events or festivals. A monumental bronze equestrian statue can be found at the center of Plaza Mayor. It was designed and sculptured by Jean Bonlogne Italian artist. It was presented for the public at the square’s opening ceremony. The statue depicts Felipe III victoriously riding his horse. As it is unusual to see love locks on a statue, the question about the placement of the padlocks can be rightful. In order to protect the artwork the love padlocks can be attached to the railing around King Felipe III’s statue.
