Duška and Gábor
Our love story began during a vacation in Bulgaria, on the 28th of June in 2014. We met in a club, and after dancing for a short while, we found out that getting to know each other would not be so simple, since Duska was born in Serbia, but now she is a German citizen and speaks fluent German. This meant a problematic situation: I never was too active during German class in school, so apart from a few words and sentences, I could not have a conversation with her!
After a lot of gesticulation and a few words, and of course with the help of Google Translate, we finally managed to understand each other. It turned out, that we had rooms in the same hotel, so we agreed that we would meet the next day as well, since we had a good time in each other’s company, despite the language difficulties. This continued on for 4 days, after which we had to say goodbye, since I had to come home. We were sad, but we did not know why, since we had only known each other for a few days. We tried to stay realistic, and agreed that we’d keep contacting each other through the internet from time to time, until eventually we would try to forget each other. What else could have been done? There was a 10 year age difference, and 1300 kilometers between us, not to mention that we didn’t even speak the same language. There was less than a 1% chance, that we would ever see each other again. But it turned out different: we couldn’t stop talking to each other on Facebook or Skype after Bulgaria. By talking of course I mean that we were struggling to understand each other, since after every second word, we had to turn to a dictionary or a translating program. In the mid of July, Duska proposed an idea: “Gabi can I visit you in Arnót for a “last meet”?” Without hesitation, I said yes. She bought the plane tickets, so in early August we have spent 5 beautiful days together. From this point on, we just couldn’t be separated from each other and decided that we would try to have a relationship. Since the 8th of August, 2014 we are a couple! Everyone told us that we are crazy and that this would not work. We were the only ones to think otherwise, and that was all we needed! Since then, we meet once every month. Sometimes she visits me; sometimes I fly to Germany to visit her.
When not together, we chat on Facebook all day, and later continue talking on Skype until late into the night.
Today, we communicate fluently in German, and sometimes even in Hungarian, since Duska has been learning Hungarian for months now, so that we could understand each other better.
It is sad that many people don’t value that their love who is next to them every day, and that they take it for granted that they can meet anytime. We have learned what does “I miss you” truly mean!
We proved that there is no such thing as impossible, since on the 1st of July 2014, we thought that we had to say goodbye forever, and exactly one year later, on the 1st of July, 2015 we will be moving in together! And on the 4th of July, we’ll travel back to Bulgaria to the same region and the exact same Hotel, where our love story began!
This was the love story of Duska and Gábor, which will have many more beautiful chapters! For those who have read our story: value your loved one, and never give up! It is worth to fight for love!
And for closure, a quotation: “Distance is to love like wind is to fire...it extinguishes the small and kindles the great!"
Well, lucky for us, the latter was the case!
